Tower of Terror drops riders in an elevator inside Hotel Hightower, with a story unique to Tokyo DisneySea rather than the Twilight Zone theme used at other Disney parks. Explorer Harrison Hightower III vanished on New Year's Eve 1899 after mocking a cursed idol, and the hotel stood closed and condemned for more than a decade. The attraction opened in September 2006 in the American Waterfront, with a ride system built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Tower of Terror in Tokyo opened on 22 September 2006 with an original story about Hotel Hightower. It has no Twilight Zone link, since the series is not well known in Japan.
