Space Mountain opened in Tomorrowland at Disneyland in 1977 as the park's second roller coaster. The steel track runs through a dark, enclosed space setting and has no inversions. The ride was rebuilt with a new track and new rocket sleds, keeping the original layout, and reopened in 2005 with a score by Michael Giacchino. Seasonal overlays have included a Halloween ghost version and a Star Wars version called Hyperspace Mountain. Riders must be at least 102 cm tall.
Disneyland's Space Mountain opened in 1977 as part of a $20 million complex, and six of the seven original Mercury astronauts attended the opening.
